KU celebrates the 46th Victory Day to mark the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent, sovereign country in 1971.
The Victory Day is being celebrated with elaborate programmes also to pay homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.
Bangladesh came into being on 16 December 1971 when Pakistani occupation forces were defeated after a nine-month war. The commander of Pakistan army, General AAK Niazi, and his 93,000 soldiers surrendered to the allied forces of freedom fighters and Indian army at Ramna Racecourse, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka.
